I aim to provide a relaxed, gentle, friendly and comfortable experience when you come to the clinic.

What happens during an acupuncture treatment?

The first consultation and treatment lasts about 1 hour. I will ask about your past and present symptoms, physical and emotional health, considering areas such as energy, sleep, diet and lifestyle. I will then feel your pulse and look at your tongue to complete the whole picture and make a diagnosis.

The treatment involves inserting very fine needles at specific points on the body, which are left in place for any time between 10 and 30 minutes while you relax. The needles are pre sterilised, single use and disposable. The sensation of the needles is often described as ‘tingling’ or a ‘dull achy feeling’ when they are in the right place.

The treatment may also include massage, the use of a heat lamp or moxa (a warming herb held over specific acupuncture points).

I may also give advice about diet, exercise or lifestyle changes which I think would enhance your treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the condition, I usually recommend about 4 weekly treatments initially to establish an improvement. After that treatment may be spaced out to fortnightly or monthly in order to achieve and maintain optimum health. Some people come every few months to ‘top up’ their energy and boost their immune systems, others find acupuncture very helpful during periods of particular stress in their lives.
